Uyghur Canadian Women
Support Service will host second Uyghur Women’s
conference in November 9, at two pm.
Main Speaker: Dr. Bullock
Katherine Bullock completed her PhD in Political Science
at the University of Toronto, in 1999. She has taught
and lectured on Islamic Civilization and Middle East
politics in California and Toronto. Her most recent
appointment is with the University of Toronto, where she
has been teaching a course entitled "The Politics of
Islam" since 2002.
Her publications include: Muslim Women Activists in
North America: Speaking for Ourselves (University of
Texas Press, 2005) and Rethinking Muslim Women and the
Veil: Challenging Historical and Modern Stereotypes
(IIIT Press, 2003), which has been translated into
French and Turkish, and re-issued in English in 2008;
"The Middle East Does Not Exist," History in Dispute:
The Middle East Since 1945, edited by David W. Lesch,
(Manly Inc, 2003); and "Media (Miss)Representations:
Muslim Women in the Canadian Nation," with Gul J. Jafri,
Canadian Woman Studies, (20, 2, Summer 2000).
Dr Bullock has also been the editor of the American
Journal of Islamic Social Sciences since 2003, the
Vice-President of The Association of Muslim Social
Scientists (North America) since 2007; and co-founder
and President in 2008 of a Canadian Muslim think-tank,
The Tessellate Institute.
She is a community activist and lectures frequently,
both to Muslim and non-Muslim groups. She is a founding
member of the Federation of Muslim Women, and Beacon, a
group dedicated to supporting new Muslims. Originally
from Australia, she now lives in the Greater Toronto
Area, Canada, with her husband and children. She
embraced Islam in 1994.

This is a second official meeting of Uyghur
women in Canada. Conference schedule as follow:
From 2pm to 3pm: speech about Women in Islam by Dr.
Bullock and other two guest speakers
After 3pm we will have 30 minute General discussion and
main subject will be: Women’s rights in Islam mean time
speakers will answer the questions
At 3:30 pm: Gift giving and we thank you all speakers
At 3:40 Surprise meals: join the dinner table and enjoy
break time
At 4:40pm to 5:40: Work shop through participating
parent quiz and choose best Mom for best Mom prize
At 6pm: meeting will be close and president of Uyghur
Canadian Society Rukiye Turdush will give final speech. |
